About

Experience

My life in publishing began as an in-house editor at Key Note, editing and proofreading market intelligence reports ranging from financial services, to travel and tourism, to food and drink, to consumer products to clothing to many other sectors and industries. During my time at Key Note I progressed to the role of editorial team leader and given responsibility for a team of in-house editors and the printing of the reports.

On turning freelance I quickly expanded my publishing sphere to include proofreading academic books, working on humanities and social science titles, and eventually to general interest books and magazine titles as well.

I now proofread for a wide variety of clients that include traditional publishers of academic and general interest books, a content agency producing contract magazines and web content, and businesses’ internal publications. I have also proofread dissertations and theses for MA and PhD and self-published non-fiction books and market reports.

Qualifications and Training

  • I have an MA with distinction in Early Modern History and a BA (2:1) in History.
  • I have passed the Publishing Training Centre’s Proofreading by Distance Learning course with a merit.
  • I am a Professional Member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders, which means I have met the SfEP’s required standards in terms of training and experience, supported by references from publishing clients.

 Skills

  • I have extensive experience of working with the British Standard Institute’s (BSI’s) proof-correction marks and can proofread blind or against a copy-edited manuscript.
  • I can work with existing house styles or I can help to create one suitable for your publication.
  • I have excellent time management and organisational skills and always meet my deadlines.

I am always happy to work in other areas on projects large or small. If you would like to discuss your proofreading requirements or would like further information about my services, please contact me here. You can also find me in the SfEP’s Directory and on LinkedIn.
